Crucial Nutrients During Baby’s First Year

Starting solids is such a big milestone for you and your little one! While milk is still the foundation, these four key nutrients become the 'superstars' of your baby’s menu to support their rapid growth.

1. Vitamin D

Vitamin D which acts like the "glue" for bones by helping your baby absorb calcium and plays a big role in immune function. Around 50% moms begin pregnancy with low levels, breast milk often needs a boost, which is why experts typically recommend 400 IU per day via drops, though you can also find it in egg yolks and fortified dairy.

2. Iron

As your baby reaches the 4 to 6-month mark, Iron becomes another top priority for brain development and healthy red blood cells. Babies are born with a natural "battery pack" of iron stores, but as these begin to deplete, it is important to focus on iron-rich first foods like beef, lentils, chickpeas, and broccoli.

3.  Omega-3 Fatty Acids (especially DHA)

DHA is also found in breastmilk, but levels depend on the mother’s diet. Omega-3, especially DHA is crucial to support babies’ cognitive, social, and physical development. Keeping healthy fats like salmon, sardines, and flaxseeds on your plate benefits both you and your little one.

4. Zinc

Zinc acts as a "growth guard" by protecting the immune system and helping your baby develop their sense of taste and smell. Since zinc levels in breast milk naturally dip after six months, incorporating meat, beans, and seeds into their meals is extra important.

Every bite is a new adventure for your baby! By focusing on these essential nutrients, you're building a strong foundation for their health and helping them become happy, adventurous eaters
